On Wednesday 16 July, Hackney Council hosted the launch of the government’s newly appointed Office of the Windrush Commissioner, Reverend Clive Foster, MBE.

His appointment signals the beginning of a nationwide listening tour, designed to restore trust with the Windrush generation and their descendants through meaningful discussion and reconciliation.

The day brought together key dignitaries including Caroline Woodley, Mayor of Hackney; Councillor Carole Williams, Hackney’s Cabinet Lead for Windrush; Minister Seema Malhotra; Deputy Mayor of London Debbie Weekes-Bernard; along with community and council leaders, to discuss the Commissioner’s role in preserving the Windrush generation’s legacy and pursuing justice for those affected by the scandal.

Charmaine Simei, CEO of Tuntum Housing Association, proudly attended the launch and had this to say

“It was an honour and a privilege to attend such a moving and momentous occasion. I wish Clive and his team every success, in what will no doubt a challenging but hopefully rewarding role.”
